The Latin community often has many essay contests and exams of sorts that students are welcome to compete in. Most of them have book prizes, medals, or monetary rewards for doing exceedingly well. It is also something reflected well on academic applications (i.e. college applications) as it demonstrates an desire for sharing knowledge, and going beyond expectations.
