What is Certamen? Certamen means "competition" in Latin. This Latin competition is between teams of four students from different schools around the Commonwealth that compete in a jeopardy-like game.
Certamina are a part of the Virginia Junior Classical League (VJCL), which posts the schedule for the year.
Certamen Practice Dates and Times are posted below in the resource section.

Every Sunday and Monday before Thanksgiving, Virginia holds the VJCL Latin Convention in Richmond, VA. Magistra has attended four conventions as a JCLer, three conventions as an SCLer (Senior Classical League), two conventions as a chaperone, and seven times as a sponsor, and as of 2024 is the VJCL Convention and Finances Chair.
The convention allows students to compete in art contests, costume contests, academic contests and so much more! Legio XX comes to this event and you can wear Roman armor! There are also speakers that come and talk on various topics about Roman culture, Latin language and some stuff on the Greeks!
