Constructed Response Questions
The ACT Aspire differs from other ACT tests by having constructed response questions. These allow students the opportunity to share their knowledge of a topic.
Long constructed response questions are evaluated as follows:
statement of relevant properties and definitions
construction of an argument that includes reasons for claims
demonstration through an indirect proof or a counterexample
What is an Indirect Proof?
It is proving by showing the contradiction is false.
For example, y+5>10 only if y>5. If this wasn't true, we could find a solution for y+5>10 only if y <= 5. If y = 5, 5+5 = 10, so the original statement is true.
