Hearing/Vision

Below you will find an FAQ on common hearing/vision screening concerns, and a form to fill out if your child receives a referral!

What grades receive hearing and vision screenings?

Preschoolers, kindergarteners (this will typically be done at kindergarten screenings, or will be done in the fall if not done at screenings), 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, and 11th grades will all receive hearing and vision screenings.

When are hearing and vision screenings done?

We start screenings in September typically, and work on them until November. These are done in the midst of other activities of the health clinic, so it is not always a set time or date that we can complete them. In the upcoming years, we will try to update the clinic calendar to reflect what weeks we will be working on them. If your child is absent when their class has screenings, we will circle back to them but it may be several weeks.

How will I know if my child failed a hearing or vision screening?

If your child fails a hearing or vision screening, you will receive a referral letter with the details of their screening, and recommending they be seen by a healthcare provider for further examination. Please schedule an appointment as soon as possible after you receive this letter, or let us know if you do not plan to have them be seen.
