The Engineer Your Future workshop allows students to explore STEM concepts in a collaborative environment.
The goal of these workshops is to encourage students to consider a career in a STEM field. Each provides an overview of the potential for careers in engineering and other technical fields; and includes an overview of nuclear power and various engineering disciplines, a career panel Q&A with Westinghouse scientists and engineers, and hands-on activities.

For the 2nd time this year and 3rd year in a row, Mr. Kasperowicz & Senora Foster took a group of select NH GATE students to the event. The program focused on the major concepts of being a Healthcare Hero, a chance to ask questions to healthcare experts (nurses, physicians, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapy, physical therapists, etc.), team building exercises & a tour of the hospital.

The NH Science Olympiad is an academic competitions consisting of a series of team events. Competitions are hands-on and fast paced, following the format of popular games. These challenging and motivational events are well balanced between the various science concepts, science processes, and inquiry skills as well as science and technological applications. We have taken into account the scope and sequence of North Hills School District curriculum as well as state standards. The students will participate in activities that enhance students’ prior knowledge and are developmentally appropriate for all of those involved. High School GATE students serve as mentors & coaches for the elementary participants.

Topics included information such as educational background, job opportunities, salary, future of the profession, what interested them in their career choice, and an example of a typical day.
Presenters included an athletic trainer, neuropsychologist, sports dietitian, sports chiropractor, physical therapist, and more.
January 2025 - Duquesne University
Mock trial is a competition where students simulate a real trial, acting as attorneys and witnesses in a hypothetical case, learning about the legal system and developing crucial skills like public speaking, critical thinking, and teamwork.
Both the Prosecution and Defense teams won their cases!!
November 2024 - Powering Pittsburgh

For the second year in a row...four NH Senior GATE Students were finalists at the Powering Pittsburgh Steelers STEM Competition and presented their project at Acrisure Stadium.
November 2024 - Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall
A group of NH middle school & high school GATE students attended the 37th Annual Faraday Lecture at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall at the University of Pittsburgh.
For over 35 years, the Faraday Lecture has been presented by prominent educators and scientists throughout the nation. Its astonishing demonstrations in chemistry and physics have both amazed and encouraged the middle and high school students to whom it is focused.

Mr. K took a group of NH students to the Healthcare Career Expo to learn about all things Healthcare.

April 2024 - North Allegheny Intermediate School
The team of Isabelle (Peridot) Larson, Delaney Amato, Stella Stango and Juliet McQuillan won FIRST PLACE at the inaugural Innovation Workshop Competition that took place on Wednesday at the North Allegheny Intermediate High School. They beat seven other teams from North Allegheny, Pine-Richland, Avonworth and Northgate with their creativity, production and presentational skills.

Mr. Kasperowicz was invited to attend this incredible lineup of presenters including doctors, therapists, trainers, psychologists and professors from the Pittsburgh area. Over 40 schools and universities were represented.

High school juniors enter the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which serves as an initial screen of program entrants. Over 1.3 million juniors in 21,000 high schools entered the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the SAT/NMSQT in 2022.
