Domain Summary: Culture

The school community at McKenzie Center for Innovation and Technology has grown to integrate STEM into the fabric of our culture. STEM has been embedded into changes to the master schedule, teacher collaboration, coaching support and feedback for teachers, improved communication with parents, professional development for teachers, new STEM curriculum, and feedback from students. STEM has become more than a curriculum, it is how we do business. There is pride from students and staff that can be experienced in all of the programs offered at McKenzie.

MCIT is host to a series of thirteen program advisory boards comprised of MCIT Staff, students and expert partners. Our partners volunteer their time and expertise to guide our programming decisions from course offerings to technology requests |1.1 Decision Making|

Teachers at McKenzie Center for Innovation and Technology have common work time two to three times a week to focus on the STEM integrated teaching methods during their PLC time. As a CTE Center our classrooms are laid out to fit the needs of the specific program. We are fortunate to have a fully operational restaurant, beauty and barbering shop and auto-shop.|1.4 Classroom Layout|
We are constantly monitoring and adjusting to the needs of our students, families and community. Both in our curricular and extra curricular offerings. MCIT Teachers and Staff lead Eleven separate program advisory boards. These boards meet regularly to advise the school on curriculum offerings, market trends, labor needs and industry standards.
The work of these boards greatly impacts the overarching STEM Plan for the building.

MCIT operates on a Block 8 Schedule that allows for 70 minute classes every other day. This allows for deeper more intentional projects and problems to be incorporated.
As a school we currently offer 34 separate courses, the majority of which target STEM career preparation
