Now it is time to learn more about elective classes offered at Killian MS. One of the courses 6th grade students must select is a Performing Arts Course: Band, Choir, Orchestra, or Theater. These courses are noted with an asterisk (*) below. This will not be a requirement in 7th or 8th grade and there will be more options for electives in those grades.
Select courses based upon the interests of your child, not because a friend is taking the class. Most likely, students will not end up in the same class period as their friends.
Follow these steps to select your elective courses:
Review the courses listed below. Visit the websites of programs that you might be interested in for more information. Ask your child what courses they were attracted to during their visit. Ask questions of the teachers at the 5th Grade Parent Night.
Select Your Child's Performing Arts Elective Course: Band, Choir, Orchestra, or Theater. You will enter this choice in the next step.
Rank your child's elective selections from 1 to 4 with 1 being your first choice- the class that the student has the most interest in. Students will only get TWO electives in their schedule, but we are asking for students to select four just in case a class does not work out in the schedule. You will need this ranking when you fill out the forms in the next step.

COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS

This 1-year 6th grade course is designed to guide students through the process of investigating and developing a career and college readiness plan. Students use aptitude and interest inventory assessments, software, or other tools available to explore career and college areas of personal interest. Students use this information to explore a variety of career paths, especially those in demand, and begin mapping their anticipated secondary coursework and potential postsecondary experiences that are in alignment with their goals.

This class is for students who have participated in the Dual Language or Spanish Immersion programs in elementary school. This is NOT a beginner class.
Spanish 2 Honors earns 2 credits of HS LOTE credit, which is required for HS graduation.
