Curriculum

Inclusion K-5

Planned Experiences (K-2): All children in Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade across the district participate in thinking skills and creativity lessons. These lessons are used to identify and nurture gifted potential among young learners while teaching all primary children higher level thinking strategies. These experiences are taught and assessed by the campus GT facilitator in the regular classroom.

Cluster Classrooms (1-5): All identified GT Students will be purposefully placed in a homeroom classroom with a GT Trained teacher and when possible, at least two other identified GT Students- often with similar strengths.

Teacher Collaboration (K-5): The GT Facilitator will collaborate with classroom cluster teachers to design differentiated lessons that challenge students to learn at a faster pace, think at a higher level, and study sophisticated and complex content through extensions of the regular curriculum.

Enrichment Workstations (K-5): The GT facilitator works alongside the cluster classroom teacher to design stations, which develop critical and logical thinking skills. These stations will be done in the regular classroom setting, and are for identified GT students with strength in math and students who show potential for grasping critical and logical math thinking skills.

Inclusion or Pull Out/ Flexible 3-5

Inclusion Support and Independent Study (3-5): The GT Facilitator joins the regular classroom to work with students and provide higher-level experiences. Students will also work independently on a self-paced research project that is designed around the state’s Texas Performance Standards Project. The GT Facilitator will meet with students periodically to help students create goals and mentor them through completion of the project.

Pull Out 3-5

LISD Research Projects/ GT Pull Out Language Arts and Math (3-5): GT Pullout services seek to provide a differentiated, academically appropriate learning environment beyond the differentiation provided in the general education setting. Students come to GT once a week to receive services. Our goal is to provide stimulating and secure environments and an age appropriate social and emotional setting where students interact with the district wide projects that are designed to develop research, creative and critical thinking skills.

Designing Dolphins( K-5): The GT facilitator will provide challenges for students that require creativity, collaboration, communication and critical thinking. We will embrace risk taking and encourage learning from mistakes in a safe environment.

LISD GT Curriculum: Grades 2-5 Identified GT Students

LISD GT Curriculum is designed to develop gifted capacities, including self awareness, communication, creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, and research. Identified GT students participate in lessons and activities culminating in unit performance tasks for peer, teacher, and self assessment.
