Personal Fitness:
The goal of the personal fitness class is to help students learn how to develop a well-rounded exercise routine by integrating resistance training, cardiovascular workouts, mobility work, and balance training through a wide variety of exercises and activities. This class is appropriate for students with little or no fitness or strength training experience. (Meets periods 3,4, and 7.) This is also open to any athletes participating in an interscholastic sport.

We continue to offer a variety of non-competitive physical education classes that are open to all skill levels. Whether you're looking to try something new or continue building on existing interests, these courses provide a supportive and inclusive environment for everyone. Each of the classes listed below is a semester-long course worth 0.5 units. Please review the schedule and course descriptions carefully.

Location: Weight Room
Schedule: Monday 3:45 pm - 4:45 pm & Friday – 3:15 – 4:15 PM
This strength-focused class offers beginning-level workouts similar to those taught in the Personal Fitness course during the school day. It is designed to help students build a strong fitness foundation in a structured and supportive environment.
In addition to in-class workouts, there is a mandatory third workout day completed outside of class. This workout will be tracked through an online journal. Students are responsible for choosing and completing a fitness activity such as bike riding, jogging, hiking, climbing, disc golf, etc., and documenting their participation in the journal.

This engaging, low-pressure class introduces students to the fundamentals of Olympic-style fencing. Instruction includes technique, footwork, and strategy. Fencing promotes hand-eye coordination, mental focus, physical fitness, and confidence. No prior experience required.

Additional Practice:
In addition to the two instructor-led classes, students complete one hour of self-practice per week (to be completed and recorded independently).
This course incorporates various styles of yoga aimed at building flexibility, strength, balance, and endurance. Additional benefits include stress relief, improved energy, and support for physical and mental well-being—especially helpful for students managing academic stress.

Capoeira is a dynamic Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines music, movement, self-defense, and expressive performance. Students will develop physical conditioning, rhythm, coordination, and mental focus while enjoying a unique and engaging art form.

The Self Defense class is based on the Inayan System of Eskrima, an internationally recognized martial art founded in Los Gatos, California. This system has been taught to law enforcement and military groups around the world.
Students will learn situational awareness, personal safety strategies, and practical self-defense techniques. The course includes both empty-hand defense and the use of tools, all taught in a safe and constructive environment. No martial arts background is required, and all skill levels are welcome.
