Course Topics and Themes:

The class will focus on the following topics and themes of American history: 

• The establishment of the British colonies and the transfer of English political traditions

• The creation of the United States as a new nation

• Westward expansion

• The American Civil War and Reconstruction Era 

• The effects of industrialization and urbanization 

• Causes and results of both major World Wars 

• The Cold War 

• The Civil Rights and Vietnam War era

• Major shifts in American society after the Cold War 

End of Course Exam:

US History is a REQUIRED course for graduation in South Carolina. In May, all students will be required to take the SC US History End of Course (EOC) exam. The EOC counts as 20% (1/5th) of a student's final grade.  In the state of SC, significantly more students fail the US History EOC compared to other EOC exams. Students must consistently review and study the materials from this class to succeed.
