Scope of the Course:
" WWII in the Cinema is an interdisciplinary course exploring the history of WWII through film studies. World War II has been the subject of many cinematic endeavors for several decades. The historical representation of such films, however, has not always been the best. In this course, students will take a deeper dive into events studies in the History of WWII. Primarily, this course will examine how film has shaped and distorted our memory and understanding of World War II. Before viewing a film, students will use inquiry to learn more about historical figures and key moments associated with the event highlighted. Students will then use their knowledge to critique the film for historical accuracy and hypothesize why directors choose to represent an event accurately or embellish it. The goal of the course is to get students to use historical thinking skills in a creative way."
