Homework/Grading/Testing

Homework

Along with nightly homework each student should spend at least 15 minutes a night reading. This can be a family member reading to the student or the student reading to someone. Saxon Math will have homework on any day that a new lesson is taught-there is no Saxon Math homework on days of a math test. Spelling menus are to be returned Friday with the completed activities for the current week spelling words.

Testing

Weekly tests in Reading and Spelling are given on Friday unless otherwise posted because of a shorten week. Saxon Math tests are given every 5 or 10 lessons. Weekly grades are posted in RenWeb.

Grading Procedures

This is an informational letter about our grading system. As you know St. Anastasia is now using RenWeb for our grading system. There are a few important points listed below to help you understand the grading in our classrooms.

  • Numeric grades are given in Reading, Math and Spelling only.

  • Work Habits, Social Development, Religion, Writing, Handwriting, Science and Social Studies are all given S+, S, S-, and U letter grades. These grades are only posted on report cards.

  • Grading scale: S+: Above and beyond requirements, S: meets all expected requirements, S-: Student is below expectations and improvement could be shown, U:Unsatisfactory

  • In order to put a letter grade in the system we must give it a numeric value. When we want to post an assignment with a letter grade we will be using the following scale:

    • 4=S+

    • 3=S

    • 2=S-

    • 1=U

Please understand the number/points shown is only so we can have the computer average the letter grades for when it is time for report cards. We will be grading the work based on S+, S, S- and U only.
