Movement & Play
Pre-K Classes encourage children to inquire, learn, and explore in fun and exciting way. St. Louis Pre-K students use materials for a hands-on learning experiences. They get to explore, learn, and ask questions. In Pre-K, we focus on building fine motor skills that help children with writing skills. They are taught colors and shapes, letter recognition, letter sounds, sight words, and counting. St. Louis Preschool promotes independence by having the children be responsible for their folders, backpacks, using the restroom independently, and completing activities individual and within groups. We focus on building skills to help children succeed in Kindergarten.
Pre-K students have the opportunity to participate in specials such as Spanish, P.E., and STEM to get them used to not only the teachers, but used to going and participating in those specials. In May, Pre-K students eat in the cafeteria and use the "big" bathrooms, so they are used to the routine of how the cafeteria works, how to be independent in the bathroom, and put their mind at ease to better help prepare them for Kindergarten.
Is my child ready for Pre-K?
Families often ask if their child is ready for Pre-K. We want to make sure that your child succeeds in Kindergarten and beyond. Here is a list that can help determine if your child is ready. If your child is able to do most of these skills independently, they are ready for Pre-K. If they are still working on several of these, our early learner program may be a better fit.
