Thanks to everyone who supported our FOSS stall at the Orleans Park School Fireworks night. Year Six's Arlo wrote this brilliant report of the night. He's pictured below with his Mum and brother Remy, who helped on the stall
Going green at Orleans Fireworks
by Arlo
Last week, my mum, my brother and I set up and ran the stall for St Stephen’s at Orleans School Fireworks. The aim was to raise money for FOSS. We knew we didn’t want to sell lots of plastic but actually Orleans said that none of the stalls could sell single use plastic items that would end up in landfill. With that in mind, we planned eco friendly packaged food and drinks for the stall. We bought compostable cups and lids for the delicious hot chocolate, paper straw for the juices and paper bags for the pick and mix sweets.
I had a really good time there, selling sweets and watching the fireworks, it was definitely a place to go back to next year. We sold lots of hot chocolate, sweeties and cookies to friends and new faces and then got to watch the beautiful fireworks. We are really glad that we limited the use of plastic. Some of the long life treats that were left over were stored for future St Stephen’s events and the remaining boxes of cookies were donated to the staff room for the teachers.
When the event ended, everyone helped clear up and we brought home the empty milk cartons from the hot chocolate and washed and recycled them.
Come and support the stall next year – we already have some fun ideas!
The FOSS Friday cake sale takes place every week in the playground after school. Last year it raised a staggering £5,700 for the school. Many thanks to everyone who donated and bought cakes.
As a reminder - in order to keep our whole school community safe we always ask that homemade or shop bought cakes do not contain nuts, coconut or sesame. Many shop bought cakes will say 'may contain nuts' and, given people bake in their homes, we can never guarantee the sale is completely 'nut free,' as traces may exist. Any cake bought at the sale is under parental supervision, not school supervision. Parents who give their children money to visit the sale are accepting parental responsibility (especially for Yr5 and Yr6 children whose parents may not be present at pick up). Children going to Stars on a Friday afternoon do not visit the cake sale, instead a cake is provided directly by Stars to children who would like to visit. Thank you in advance to everyone over this school year that will bake, buy and help make our cake sales succesful and safe.
Many thanks
