Dancing to music through the ages and looking at historical timelines was part of a recent trip to Strawberry Hill House for our Year One children. The full day trip was packed with royal themed workshops. These included making crowns, donning regal attire and working out what William IV would have eaten when he paid a visit. They decided it was unlikely that pizza and many modern dishes would have tantalised his royal taste buds and instead he would probably have opted for a pigeon pie with all the trimmings. Outdoor compass work and some map study rounded off a fabulous day.
Our Year Four artists have been studying the work of JMW Turner, who lived for a while just up the road in Twickenham. Following a visit to his house, Sandycombe Lodge, they had a wonderful workshop on his art. Turner House specialist, Rita, showed them lots of works by artists who have been inspired by Turner, comparing them with the original. The children were then given copies of Turner's work to study and tasked to complete their own artworks using oil pastels. The results were stunning and will be displayed in school. They then started some collage work, with the aim of creating a Turneresque seascape.

Keeping children safe online
Peter Cowley, Achieving for Children’s Former Online Safety Adviser.
About this Event
Peter will be talking about online safety. He will specifically address topics to help parents understand the current and emerging risks online and support their children through them.
You may be aware that a recent report from the Children’s Commissioner found that by age 13, half of children have seen online pornography. Additionally, another national survey, The Pupil Safeguarding Review, found 58% of students had reported feeling unsafe online several times in the past six months; 19% of those students missed school because of feeling unsafe online.
This is an essential talk for all parents.
