ODD SOCKS AND INSPIRING POEMS FOR ANTI-BULLYING WEEK

These Year Four children were so inspired by their work during Anti-Bullying Week, that they took up their pens and wrote an anti-bullying poem in their own time. So lovely.

Our annual Anti-Bullying Week is the perfect opportunity for us to empower children to do something positive to counter the harm and hurt bullying causes. Organised by the Anti-Bullying Alliance, the theme was Make a Noise About Bullying. Following the success of the campaign in 2022 – when 80% of schools marked the week, reaching over 7.5 million children and young people – Anti-Bullying Week reminds everyone that whether it’s in school, at home, in the community or online, we can all work together to bring an end to bullying.

We kicked off the week with a special Odd Socks Day, aimed at emphasising and celebrating our differences. We also drew our own odd socks, showing who and what is important to us. Our PHSE Co-ordinator, Nicola Collins, outlined the week for us: "This year our focus as a school is on bullying in the online world. For this, each year group have focused lessons specifically aimed at raising the awareness of online bullying and how to get help if they or others they know are being bullied. With lots of resources from ProjectEVOLVE our lessons looked at topics related to online bullying. This included how we should behave online and capturing and reporting bullying, as well and how bullying makes others feel."

A BREATH OF FRESH AIR IN YEAR THREE

Thunberg class has been learning about pneumatic systems in Design and Technology. We hope you can keep a secret, as the children plan to make something for their chums in Reception with this new found air power knowledge. We have checked in with Miss Downes and the young designers and they have promised to keep us updated on the project. Watch this space.
