We are thrilled to celebrate the success of our Year 6 Sports Leaders who are doing a brilliant job of organising and running sporting activities during lunchtimes!
Under the guidance and support of Mr. Cain and Mr. Ryan, these dedicated students ensure that lunch break is a time for active fun, providing younger children with a variety of organized games to participate in.
The children have been thoroughly enjoying the sessions, which currently include popular team games such as:
Hockey
Football
Netball
Basketball
The Year 6 Sports Leaders are appointed through a rigorous process. Each student interested in the role had to submit a proposal detailing why they believe they would be a great sports leader, focusing on their organizational skills, enthusiasm, and ability to encourage fair play.
We are incredibly proud of these students for demonstrating leadership, responsibility, and commitment to making our lunchtimes active and enjoyable for everyone!
Our Year 6 sports leaders are: Hannah, Emil, Ben, Ruzgar, Sofia, Will, Elijah, Sassy, Alana, Ethan, Rory, Remy, Guilherme and Henry I. Thank you for your dedication and commitment.
On Thursday, our Year 3 boys’ football team took part in the annual Richmond Borough competition at Richmond & Kew Football Club. This exciting event brought together schools from across the borough, with teams competing in group stages before progressing to the knockout rounds.
From the very first whistle, the St Stephen’s boys showed confidence, teamwork and real footballing skill. They progressed from their group with a series of impressive performances. Although they occasionally took risks in possession, we pride ourselves on developing players who are brave on the ball - and the boys embodied that philosophy superbly.
Their excellent group-stage run earned them a place in the semi-finals, where they faced Hampton’s St Mary’s. The team dominated the match from start to finish, securing a well-deserved spot in the final.
In the final, the boys met Sheen Mount. Despite giving their all, Sheen Mount’s physicality proved decisive, and they took the win. Nevertheless, finishing second in the entire borough - especially in their first ever competition as Year 3s - is a fantastic achievement. We are incredibly proud of the team’s attitude, effort and sportsmanship throughout.
A huge well done to Elliot, Ellery, Toby, Arthur, Harrison, Raf, top scorer Noah, and our Player of the Tournament, Kosta.
What an outstanding team performance - well done, boys!
On Monday, the football team faced Holy Trinity, looking to build on their valiant display in last week’s tournament and continue their development as a squad. The team produced some excellent passages of play and dominated much of the match, but despite creating several promising chances, we just couldn’t find the finishing touch.
Holy Trinity, meanwhile, were clinical with their opportunities and converted both of their clear chances, resulting in a 2–0 scoreline.
As I always remind the team: you don’t lose — you learn. There are a few areas to work on, and we’ll take those lessons into our next fixture.
Well done to Ruzgar, Niamh, Spencer, Rafe, Ben, Noah, Ato and Henry for their effort, commitment, and teamwork.
Does your child love football and want to improve their skills? We're excited to share details about the Brentford FC Football Development Programme. This high-quality programme welcomes young people of all abilities (and those showing potential) to receive excellent coaching at top facilities from FA and UEFA qualified staff.
A great feature is the structured development match programme against other professional club trusts (like Chelsea and West Ham), which takes place during holidays, ensuring no conflict with existing 'grassroots football' commitments. If you think your child might be interested in this player-centred pathway, you can find more information or register interest via their trial waiting list form on the Brentford FC website.
