Year One went to Strawberry Hill House where students from nearby St Mary's University came by to run some fantastic historical workshops for the young learners. After exploring the unique Gothic revival masterpiece, created by the eighteenth century man of letters, Horace Walpole, the childen settled down to some sessions on crown and shield making, as well as a workshop on dancing through the ages. It was all go!
This week we were delighted to welcome the students to work with the children in class, looking at how shopping has changed through the ages. They were tasked with designing a banquet for both Horace Walpole and King Charles, thinking about the produce that would be available in the eighteenth century, compared to the present day. We are sure that if King Charles had turned up he would have enjoyed tucking into some pizza and chocolate. The children were very keen to supplement his menu with some healthy fodder, so would have served up lashings of vegetables and fruit too. Phew! A king cannot live on pizza and chocolate alone.
