MELTING MOMENTS IN YEAR FOUR SCIENCE

Our Year Four children are studying States of Matter in science and have turned their classrooms into labs in order to experiment with melting materials. They were considering the scientific question 'which material melts the quickest' and froze a variety of liquids. These included water, salt water, orange juice and washing up liquid. Then, it was time to make their predictions - many thought good old H2O would be the first to return to its liquid form. However, washing up liquid was first past the winning post. As this varied from their prediction, there was lots of discussion as to why washing up liquid was the first to melt. Was it because it has a denser mass? Was the experiment a completely fair test? Were the washing up liquid ice cubes closer to the radiator? Do liquids have different melting temperatures? Lots of scientific discussion ensued!

CURIE CLASS OPENS THE DOOR ON THANKFULNESS

When your year group school value is 'thankfulness,' why not start spreading that message as soon as you can, even before visitors open the door to your classroom? And that is exactly what the children in Year One's Curie class have done. Emblazoned across the classroom door are lots of fabulous images depicting all the things the children inside are thankful for. From their families to their school, and their planet to their favourite food (ice cream is heavily featured). It is a hugely uplifting message as you walk past the door and is reminding all the staff and children to think about what they are thankful for as they go by. Thank you Curie.
