As we head into the Easter break, our school gallery reflects on the culmination of the Lenten journey. This week, we have moved from the "hustle and bustle" of school life into a space of peace and celebration, following our moving service at St Stephen’s Church.
How can we get ready for Easter by looking at Jesus’ example?
In school, we have spent the last few weeks looking at Jesus’ example of service and sacrifice. As we enter the Easter holidays, our focus shifts to the message at the very heart of the Christian faith: that even after the darkest times, there is hope and new life.
Just as the spring flowers are beginning to bloom in our gardens, Easter reminds us that we can all play a part in bringing light and kindness to the world around us. Whether through a simple smile or a helping hand, we can carry the spirit of service to others into our holidays.
While school is closed, you might like to explore these themes as a family through some simple reflections and activities:
A Walk of Wonder: During the break, take a 'signs of life' walk in a local park or woods. Look for new buds, nesting birds, or the bright yellow of daffodils. Talk about how these are symbols of hope and new beginnings, reflecting the Easter message of resurrection.
The Easter Story in Eggs: If you are decorating or hiding eggs this year, you could talk about the egg as a symbol of the tomb from the Easter story - something that looks still on the outside but holds the promise of new life within.
Acts of Hidden Kindness: To continue our theme of being people for others, try another challenge. Can each family member do one kind thing for someone else during the holidays without being asked - and without taking the credit?
A Moment of Quiet: If you created an Easter Garden last week, you might want to place a small stone in front of the tomb on Good Friday, and then roll it away on Easter Sunday morning to celebrate the joy of the day.
We wish all our families a peaceful, restful, and holy Easter break. We look forward to seeing everyone back in school, refreshed and ready for the summer term!
Jesus said, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find” (Matthew 7:7).
I have found prayer to be a quiet but powerful gift in the midst of a busy and often unpredictable life. It reminds us that we are not alone, and it genuinely makes a difference in our hearts, our homes, and in the things we face.
As both a parent and a priest, with two children here at St Stephen’s, I would love to pray with you for our school, our children, and anything you may be facing. Whether prayer is familiar to you or something you are curious to explore, you are very welcome.
We are pleased to launch our parent prayer group, beginning next week! After this first session, we will resume regularly following the Easter break.
