Celebrating Our Shared Reading Afternoon: A Fantastic Turnout!

What a wonderful afternoon it was! We were absolutely blown away by the incredible turnout for our "Reading Fight Back" information afternoon. Seeing so many of you join us was a testament to how much our school community values the magic of literacy.

A huge thank you goes to Miss Mowbray, whose enthusiasm and dedication really set the tone for the afternoon. Her session was packed with the science of reading, and we truly hope you left feeling equipped and encouraged to champion reading at home. It’s clear that when we work together, we can make a real difference in fostering a lifelong love of books for our children.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly seeing the classrooms buzzing with activity. It was heart-warming to see so many parents settling into cozy corners and reading spots to share stories directly with the children. There is something truly special about that shared quiet time - it’s where the best conversations and discoveries happen!

Curie's Expedition to Turner’s House

Last week, our Year 1 adventurers stepped back in time with a fantastic trip to Turner’s House. It wasn't just a day of sightseeing; the children were tasked with a very important mission: becoming museum protectors!

A highlight for the children was discovering that even the smallest creatures can cause big problems in a museum. We learned that moths and certain bugs can be real pests, potentially damaging the delicate historical fabrics and papers housed within the museum.

To bring this lesson to life, the children took part in a high-stakes 'search and rescue' activity. With sharp eyes and focused minds, they hunted through the rooms for hidden plastic moths. It was a brilliant way to understand how curators have to be constantly vigilant to keep our history safe and sound.

Beyond the bug hunt, the children were captivated by the history of the house itself. Seeing where a famous artist lived and worked sparked so many wonderful questions. It was a delight to see their curiosity flourish outside the classroom walls, and we are incredibly proud of how well they engaged with the curators and their environment.
