2026 is the National Year of Reading, and at St Stephen’s, we are on a mission to inspire a lifelong love of stories. Research shows that reading for pleasure is at an all-time low nationally, but we are determined to buck that trend!
To celebrate, we have a week of exciting events planned, culminating in a very special invitation for you:
We invite all parents and carers to join us in school. We will start by sharing the St Stephen’s approach to reading, followed by a shared reading session in class with your child.
What to bring: A book that sparks joy for you or your child (in any language!).
Family Reading: If you have children in multiple year groups, we will bring you all together for a family session.
FOSS Book Swap: Drop off good-quality second-hand books all week. We will hold a giant book sale on the playground on Friday 6th March until 4pm!
Book Bingo: Look out for Bingo cards in school bags - there’s one for the children and one for parents! Send your 'Bingo photos' to your Year Group inbox.
Bunting Decorating: Check bags for a bunting triangle to decorate at home. Please return these by Friday 13th Feb to brighten our book corners.
Dress Up Day: Thursday 5th March - come as your favorite book character!
Library Visits: Year 1 (March 4th) and Year 2 (March 2nd) will be exploring Twickenham Library.
To keep the momentum going, don't miss our brand-new Book Review page launching in this newsletter! We want our pupils to lead the way by recommending "must-reads" to their peers. Check the new section for details on how your child can submit a review to their Year Group inbox.
Thanks to your incredible fundraising during the Literacy Fun Run, we are now replenishing our book corners with a range of wonderful new titles. We can't wait to see these in the hands of our budding bookworms!
Building on all the excitement from last week, our Reception classes took their learning on the road for a fantastic trip to Brooklands Museum. It was a day filled with awe, wonder, and plenty of historic transport.
The children were true explorers as they navigated the birthplace of British motorsport and aviation. The absolute highlight for many was the chance to get behind the wheel of various vintage vehicles. There were lots of smiles as the children imagined themselves racing around the historic track!
It was wonderful to see the children’s faces light up as the history they had been studying came to life. Their behavior was exemplary throughout the day.
An extra-special thank you goes out to our parent volunteers. Trips like these are only possible because of your support, and we are so grateful for the time you gave to help make the day so enjoyable and safe for everyone.
Following on from our announcement last week, we are delighted to share the wonderful news that Mr Cain and his family have welcomed a beautiful baby girl.
We have heard that both mum and baby are doing very well. Mr Cain is now enjoying his two weeks of paternity leave, and I am sure you will all join us in sending our warmest congratulations and best wishes to the whole family at this very special time.
