After weeks of planning, sketching and studying with our art teacher, Ruth Garner, Year Four has put paint to paper to create some stunning Hockney landscapes. Hockney was inspired by Vincent Van Gogh and you can see from these bold and colourful 'works in progress' that our Year Four artists have taken their lead from these two legendary artists. Out in the playground they are working on their tennis skills with Mr Cain. Accurate racket placement and foot positioning enabled them to create some killer strokes.
Inspired by the colourful work of designer and artist Yinka Ilori, our Year Five children have been crafting some sculpture models for their ideal playground plans. We checked in with our art teacher, Ruth Garner, for the background on the project; "The children looked at the bold and bright colours Yinka uses and how he incorporates his Nigerian heritage and London upbringing into his work. He also often uses positive slogans to bring joy and happiness. The children designed a zebra crossing, then a playground floor and accompanying slogan. They then made a 3D shape for their playground, using papier mache. Painted to match their playground floor, it was designed to be somewhere children could crawl under." What a fabulous project. Miss Garner has been so impressed with the ideas and inspiration of the children. We bring you lots and lots of pictures of this work, they were all so good we just could not leave any out.
