FOCUS ON FOUR

Busy times in Year Four.  As well as preparing for their starring roles in this year's Easter Service at St Stephen's Church (more of that next week) our Year Four children have been building on their flexibility with some weekly yoga sessions in PE. Starting off with some cat stretches, downward dogs and warrior one poses, they have built up to some strong standing triangles. After finding some grounding stances and sun salutations, they have worked on their balance with a tree and flying warrior pose. As well as being so beneficial for flexibility, yoga is wonderful for giving children time to quieten their minds and relax.

Next up was learning to use knives safely in Design and Technology. Year Four has  looked at the claw, bridge and cross cutting techniques to correctly chop cucumbers, tomatoes and herbs. Learning how to safely grate added to their growing kitchen skills. And what of the resultant beautiful chopped and grated salad goods? Well, to the chopper the spoils! The young kitchen assistants got to munch on these as healthy, mid afternoon snacks. They are building up their skills to produce healthy pasta lunches, based on the Eatwell plate which shows them how to eat a balaced meal, combining the essential food groups.
