CONGRATULATIONS MRS BACHOUR ON TWENTY FABULOUS YEARS AT ST STEPHEN'S
It's hard to believe it but our headteacher, Liz Bachour, has led our school for twenty years. This is an amazing achievement and to celebrate her devotion and service to our school, we marked this momentous occasion with a special celebration assembly. All our children, staff and governors packed the hall and Mrs Bachour was welcomed by a walkway of claps from our Year Six children and staff.
The celebration kicked off with some of our children reading their thoughts on what she means to them. Next up we paid tribute to her Welsh heritage by serenading her with a specially adapted version of Tom Jones' 'It's not unusual.' Then it was over to Mrs Morrison who spoke of Mrs Bachour's importance and outstanding contribution to our school. We finished with a moving powerpoint of pictures and memories from children, staff and governors.
There was more to come. Our children unveiled a beautiful, specially commissioned window display, highlighting some of the themes Mrs Bachour so often shares with us. These include upstanding, global citizenship and the belief that we can all work to make our world a better place. This will be a daily reminder to us of all the values she promotes and encourages us to share.
To the best upstander of them all - three cheers for the legend that is Mrs Bachour. We have also included her in this week's list of merits - she so deserves it.
Thank you also to the parents and staff who baked cakes for this special day.
Sporting glory for KS2
The sun shone and the trains ran on time (well, almost), which all boded well for a fabulous Sports Day at St Mary's University. Mr Cain designed a slightly different layout for us this year and it worked beautifully. Children rotated around eight events and a rest stop! Thanks to Mr Cain for all his hard work organising, our whole staff for great teamwork on the day, some amazing parent helpers and all the cheering supporters. However, the biggest round of applause must go to our KS2 athletes. There wasn't any winners' podium, but if there had been one, every single one of our children deserved to be on it.
DODGEBALL TEAM REACHES NATIONAL FINALS - REPORT BY MR CAIN
After what can only be described as an intense play-off, we are thrilled to announce our St Stephen's dodgeball team will be travelling to Nottingham for the national dodgeball finals in July.
The team played matches in the group stage, winning three and losing two narrowly 6-4. These two losses did not prevent us progressing to the semi-finals but qualified us for the play-off game.We knew that the play-off group winner would take the final qualification spot for nationals, so the stakes were high.
We lost the first game in this intense battle to go 2-0 down, winning the next two to go 4-2 up. Then we were brought back to 4-4, knowing we needed a win. The team dug out the performance of a lifetime to eliminate all members of the opposition to win 6-4 and qualify for the nationals which is a unbelievable achievement. We've now won the county event in, qualified from regionals in east London reaching the nationals in Nottingham. Well done Mila, Eli, Isla M, Raffy, Sybil, Thomas, Isla H, Oli and Seb. You have made everyone at St Stephen's very proud.
