YEAR ONE CHILDREN LEARN TO PAINT LIKE THE OLD MASTERS
YEAR ONE CHILDREN LEARN TO PAINT LIKE THE OLD MASTERS
Our Year One children have been treated to some amazing Tudor painting workshops with parent and art teacher, Jo Moore. Jo showed the children how to make authentic period paint by mixing pigments and egg yolk. After grinding down some paint pigments, she mixed the results with water. This created period paints, akin to those used by Tudor artists. All this fantastic authenticity was part of the young artists plans to create Tudor self portraits. We checked in with Year One teacher and art co-ordinator, Pam Gawn, to paint a picture of how things went: "We were so lucky to have these fantastic workshops with Jo. They did preliminary sketches of themselves and then had an hour of teaching on drawing faces. The difference in the children's portrait drawing after just one hour's teaching was amazing to see. It was also so interesting to learn about traditional methods of mixing pigments with egg yolk."
