Nursery
Nursery artists in the making!
Reception
The children have been very busy as always. In forest school, we toasted some marshmallows over the campfire- they were really yummy! We also did an investigation to find who had the longest shoe in our class, we measured them using cubes and made sure we were in the correct order. Miss Chantelle also came into our classroom to help us do some tricky balances which was really daring but fun!
As the season of Lent begins, the children enjoy the tradition of making some yummy pancakes. They mixed up all the ingredients together, then with the help of Mrs Harvey were able to cook them, top them with some lemon and sugar before they ate them. It was a delicious learning experience!
Father Tony came to the school on Ash Wednesday for a special service where the children received their ashes.
The children have been learning about weight in maths lessons and have explored how much things weigh using balance scales. They also used scales to weigh each other and see if they weigh the same or if they are different.
In music the children have been “travelling through space”. Mrs Venn has introduced the children to various composers and music pieces where they explore the sound in the music and if it is “forte” (loud) or “piano” (quiet).
Miss McNeish has been working with the children in gymnastics as they exercise their bodies by making different shapes, practising their balances and looking at movement around the room.
The children have been learning about traditional fairy tales and have focused on the story of The Gingerbread man. They have been baking and decorating their own gingerbread man biscuits as well as making gingerbread man paper bag puppets.
The children enjoyed all the fun festivities of French day. They dressed in the colours of the french flag (bleu, blanc et rouge), painted their own flags in class and some even got them painted on their faces during their visit to the ‘French Market’. They enjoyed some yummy snacks like croissants, brioche and baguettes with french meats and cheeses. The year 5 children came to play some games in French with the children in class. Miss Mbuku also came to Reception and read a French story, in french, to them. The children learnt about Gustave Eiffel, the french engineer who designed and built the famous Eiffel tower in Paris. The children even recreated his design in class using paper straws. The day was tres bien!
The children dressed up in costumes of their favourite book characters for World Book Day.
Reception had a trip to the Science Museum where they were able to see how science has changed throughout the years and all over the world. They really enjoyed exploring the pattern pod and the garden where they could build, create and play. They were fascinated by the space section where they saw lots of different rockets, space equipment and even planets. The whole trip was out of this world!
The children took part in their first session with another Miss McNeish, a kickboxing and taekwondo champion and a former GB athlete, who taught them some new kickboxing skills. The children were very good at following the instructions of this new discipline and understand they are not to use what they have learnt in play and on others in school.
