Year 4 British Museum, Sutton Hoo
June 2024

They reflected on the variety of materials used (iron, copper and gold, tin, ivory or wood) and which of these was better preserved. When analysing the helmets and the buckle, the children learnt that the Anglo Saxons considered the dragon, the snake and the bird very important as they would keep the evil away.Â
Finally, Y4's discovered that the Anglo Saxons used big ivory horns to drink and they used to drink mead (wine and honey).
