The above Bible passage means that if Jesus, the Son of God, can wash the feet of the apostles, then we should have no problem helping others. It doesn't matter what the job is. If people need help, we should do it. Jesus washed the disciples' feet right before he was crucified. Knowing this we should also realize that we should make time to help others even when we have important stuff going on.
The service I helped with was moving desks and clearing out junk at Saint Edmond School. We worked for almost two hours. The Saint Edmond Administration put this on. It was a lot of physical work. We had to carry items up and down stairs and throw them in a tall dumpster.
The connections I can make with the Bible passage are lessons that I learned. First, it was a lot of hard work that I didn't want to do. I am sure Jesus had other things on his mind while he was washing the feet. Later I realized that it was needed and that I was a good example for others. Secondly, I did not want to give up my time during the Summer. Jesus gave up some of his last minutes on Earth to set a good example and teach a lesson. When I realized this, I also knew that what I did was good and might show others the right thing to do.
