My early childhood has memories of Catholic schools. I attended Saint Lawrence, a 1st -8th in Carroll, Iowa. We moved around a little bit during my high school years. I started high school at Davenport Assumption and finished back in Carroll at Kuemper. Bot high school mascots were the knights, so I feel there was a smooth transition. After high school, I attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. The first Naughton to attend a public college. My older brother and two of my younger brothers were educated at Loras College in Dubuque. Two of my sisters traveled to college on the other side of the state as they were Chargers from Briar Cliff University. My uncle Fr. Dale George was the chaplain at Briar Cliff for a long time.
After graduating college, I was hired to teach at Sacred Heart Middle School in Fort Dodge. I taught seventh and eighth grade Reading . I haven't changed much as I still teach 8th grade Language Arts to this day. I have had two years of teaching eighth grade Religion as well. During my years at Sacred Heart and then later at Saint Edmond, I have coached football, track, and wrestling at all levels. It has been a varied and interesting experience because I have seen coaches come and go.
My wife, Teresa, and I have been in Fort Dodge since 1992. We have raised our family here. Rafferty is the oldest. He graduated from the University of Northern Iowa and is now a teacher. Cade, our middle child, is studying at the University of Iowa. He is an active member of the Newman Catholic Center. Milena, our third, is currently studying at the University of Northern Iowa. She participates at the Saint Stephen Center on Campus. All three attended Saint Edmond Catholic Schools. We are extremely happy with the opportunities they experienced at Saint Edmond and proud of the people they are becoming.
