Year 9

Virtual Careers Day

On Monday 1st March we hosted our first ever Virtual Event. Shaping Futures worked with our Year 9 pupils to help them with decision making and understanding Labour Market Information and Growth Sectors. This insight into the world of work and and the Year 9 Options Assembly will enable students to make informed choices about their GCSE Options.

#NCW2021

Pupils are taking part in NCW2021 Assemblies as well as lots of activities to promote careers including a design challenge to develop an understanding of Labour Market Information by researching local businesses here in Halton and in the wider Liverpool City Region. Watch this space for more details...

ALSTOM Apprenticeships

KS4 pupils took part in a live Q&A session to find out what Apprenticeships are on offer locally.

#NAW2021

Pupils took part in a range of activities during NAW2021 including a competition to complete the Amazing Apprenticeships Interactive Activity Pack. Well done to Lilly Atherton & Ryan Murphy who won the PRIZE DRAW!

Through the Eyes of Boys Project 2020

We are working with Shaping Futures on the Through the Eyes of Boys Project. The group of year 10 boys have a fantastic opportunity to work with Liverpool University on a range of activities including 1:1 mentoring, university visits and workshops. The project aims to encourage pupils, who may not necessarily have considered university an option, to achieve their true potential.

Regeneration Reps

Our year 7 pupils are very excited to be working with Riverside Housing on the Regeneration Project. They will be involved in all manner of consultations about what improvements are needed in the Hallwood Park and Palacefields areas of Halton. It's an amazing opportunity for them to have a say in what is happening in their area and it will give them a valuable insight into a wide range of careers that are needed from the planning and investment phase to the physical development of these areas. Riverside Regeneration first consulted our year 7 pupils in October as part of the Building Communities Careers Day. The team were very impressed with the ideas that our pupils contributed and we look forward to seeing how St Chad's pupils help shape the local community.

Careers in Travel & Tourism

Thank you to Mathew & Jessica from Hays Travel in Church Street, Runcorn for coming into school to deliver a presentation to some of our year 11 pupils on the careers available to them in Travel and Tourism. Pupils really enjoyed hearing about their career journeys and we look forward to welcoming them back in very soon.

Careers Mentoring

Some of our year 11 pupils were selected for some careers mentoring. Mike from GPT waste solutions shared his very diverse career history and the benefit of his experience.

Employability Skills

Year 10 pupils worked with a number of Telefonica employees to build their Employabilty Skills. Pupils participated in a number of workshops which focused on CV writing, digital footprints and how to conduct themselves in a mock interview. St Chad's would like to thank the volunteers for giving up their time and we look forward to working with you again very soon.

Sensory Workshops

A number of our year groups have been lucky enough to work with Halton Sensory Services. This has enabled pupils to have a greater understanding of those with vision or hearing loss both in the community of Halton but also in the workplace. The pupils were captivated when Alison delivered her entire session in sign language with an interpreter. However, the star of the day was Damson, Alison's assistance dog!

Charity Assemblies

We continue to support Halton Haven's much needed fundraising through a range of activities. We'd like to thank the nurses who came in to deliver really informative assemblies that highlighted the essential work they do working with patients and supporting their families too. Pupils have developed a better understanding of the different services the hospice offers the community and the different staff members who all play a vital role in the running of the facility.

Through the Eyes of Girls Project

We have 30 girls from Key Stage 4 who are involved with this exciting project coordinated by Shaping Futures at Liverpool University. This is part of the National Collaborative Outreach Programme which seeks to raise girls' aspirations of attending university by hosting a number of events including university residentials, 1:1 mentoring, CV writing and talks to give an insight into university life, courses and funding. We'd like to extend our thanks to all involved in providing our pupils with this outstanding opportunity.

Learn to Earn

Year 9 pupils took part in Learn to Earn sessions which centred around understanding their finances. Pupils were challenged to look at salaries and the cost of living. They were amazed at just how many deductions are made each month before people pay for the basic essentials before any luxury items could be bought! St Chad's would like to thank Young Enterprise and Kawneer UK/Arconic Foundation who made the whole thing possible.

Year 8 Rollercoaster Challenge

Volunteers from O2 Telefonica set an Enterprise Task designing a rollercoaster and Year 8 certainly rose to the challenge! Pupils had to work in teams deciding on clearly defined roles and responsibilities before researching, constructing and delivering a sales pitch on the rollercoaster's USP (unique selling point) to the panel. Then came the all important marble test to see which product worked best. It was a lot of fun for all involved and certainly brought out the creative and managerial qualities of lots of our pupils.

Be Your Best Self

Year 9s worked with Career Connect to look at building resilience when faced with different challenges. Alex got them thinking about the type of personality traits they had and ways to boost a positive mental attitude. As part of the challenge pupils were asked to design animals out of nothing but tinfoil. There were some very interesting creations, some very determined individuals and a few frustrated pupils too!
