Welcome to the Graphic Communication and Design & Visual Communication's Exploratory website. This cycle your student will cycle through workstations for graphic designers, screen press operators, bindery, promotional material and digital media creators. Our industry is so broad and varying, we believe this model will give your student, and you, a solid understanding of the many opportunities for employment.
We expect our students to show up everyday prepared and ready to work. There is no such thing as standing around in our shop. Our students design, print and prepare artwork to helping clean the shop. They do it all! Please show up day one ready to work, wearing your exploratory t-shirt, jeans or khakis and close toed shoes.
Student that graduate from our program have opportunities in college or career. Our students have gone onto working at screen printers, embroidery shops, mail houses, print shops and production environments. For students interest in continuing their education, marketing and graphic design are major pathways for our grads. Those students have found success in 2- and 4 year programs at colleges such as MassArt, Lasell, UMass Dartmouth, SNHU, Colby-Sawyer and more.
We have graduates and coop students all over the South Shore at The Frame Center, Hingham Graphics, Webster Print, Rockland Athletics, just to name a few. Our students and industry are in such demand, we have employers with positions going unfilled!
Students will be exposed to and learn multiple areas of concentration in the graphic design shop. This includes equipment such as digital presses, bindery, silk screening, embroidery, customer service and digitial tools including Adobe Creative Cloud for page layout, image composition, animation, videography and photography.
Before graduating, our students will receive an industry recognized certification to set them apart from traditional students in—at least—one of the following: OSHA-10, Adobe Certified Associate, Visual Design (Photoshop) and/or Illustration.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics monitors job growth, pay, job outlook and more. Here is a link of general information to help you and your child in the shop decision making process.
