Exploratory Students & Families

Welcome

Welcome to the Graphic Communication and Design & Visual Communication's Exploratory website. This cycle your student will cycle through workstations for graphic designers, screen press operators, bindery, promotional material and digital media creators. Our industry is so broad and varying, we believe this model will give your student, and you, a solid understanding of the many opportunities for employment.

Our Expectations

We expect our students to show up everyday prepared and ready to work. There is no such thing as standing around in our shop. Our students design, print and prepare artwork to helping clean the shop. They do it all! Please show up day one ready to work, wearing your exploratory t-shirt, jeans or khakis and close toed shoes.

After Graduation, What Can I do?

Student that graduate from our program have opportunities in college or career. Our students have gone onto working at mail houses, print shops and production as well as colleges such as MassArt, Lasell, UMass Dartmouth, SNHU, Colby-Sawyer and more.

We have graduates and coop students all over the South Shore at The Frame Center, Hingham Graphics, Webster Print, Rockland Athletics, just to name a few. Our students and industry are in such demand, we have employers with positions going unfilled!

About Our Shop

The graphics program at South Shore Tech is not the graphics program you may be familiar with from years past. We offer our students 2 Chapter 74 program under 1 shop. What does that actually mean? Well, your child will be exposed to and learn multiple areas of concentration in graphic communications. This includes equipment such as digital presses, bindery, silk screening, embroidery, customer service and more. Additionally, your child will be exposed to and learn multiple areas of concentration in the design & visual communications field including web design, page layout, photo editing, illustration, photography, drawing and more. We have 3 teachers in house with a combined 40+ years in the industry.

Before graduating, our students will receive an industry recognized certification to set them apart from traditional students in—at least—one of the following: OSHA-10, Adobe Certified Associate in Print and Digital Media, Visual Design (Photoshop) and/or Illustration. We do have a Google Classroom, so please visit and see the projects the students are doing.

Jobs In Our Industry

The Bureau of Labor Statistics monitors job growth, pay, job outlook and more. Here is a link of general information to help you and your child in the shop decision making process.
