Welcome to AP English Language and Composition! This course develops vital reading and writing skills essential for college and civic engagement. You'll learn to analyze diverse texts critically and write effectively for various audiences and purposes. By deepening your understanding of rhetorical language, you'll become a more informed and adaptable communicator.
Course Overview | In this course, you'll work on improving your analytical and argumentative writing skills. You'll learn how to analyze nonfiction texts and understand the choices writers make when they write. You'll also learn how to use research to support your arguments and evaluate different sources. Throughout the course, you'll read and analyze various nonfiction texts from different fields and time periods to understand how language is used to persuade and inform. This course is like an introductory college-level class in rhetoric and writing.
Prerequisites | You don't need to take any specific courses before AP English Language and Composition. However, you should be comfortable reading and understanding college-level texts. You should also be able to write complete sentences with good grammar.
Grading | Your AP English teacher will review your progress on the Summer Assignment. They will ensure that you have completed all parts of the assignment, including the supporting work for your responses. It's important to remember that if you don't finish the work, you won't receive credit for it. The completion of this summer assignment is essential for your success in this course. It will also count as a summative assessment grade for the first quarter of the school year. Due dates can be found here.
