Homework
Second graders are given written homework in Math and ELA each night. In addition, they will have a reading log and varying vocabulary sentences or grammar homework. Second grade students should be reading each night for a minimum of 15 minutes. They are also expected to practice addition and subtraction math facts regularly.
Forgotten Homework
If a student forgets to complete a homework assignment, I may allow them to complete it in school depending on the assignment and time. Otherwise, it is to be completed as additional homework the following evening.
Behavior
The second grade students are given a behavior calendar each month. They begin each day with a sticker and they may lose their sticker for poor behavior. If their sticker has been taken away, the reason for it will be written on the date. Please initial your child's calendar each night to acknowledge that you saw it.
Star-Bucks - in addition to the personal behavior calendars, each student will have the opportunity to earn Star-Bucks! Star-Bucks are awarded to students when they are trying their best, working well with others and/or independently, asking questions, participating in discussions, etc. At the end of each month, we will cash out our Star-Bucks for some fun rewards.
Kindness Jar - the Kindness Jar is a classroom effort. In order to earn a reward the entire class must contribute to adding a warm and fuzzy (pom-pom) into our Kindness Jar. Any act of kindness caught by me or others, allows that student or students to add a warm and fuzzy into the jar. Once the jar is filled and each student has added, the class will be rewarded!
Birthdays
Students may celebrate their birthdays in school. They are welcome to bring in a non-food item if they choose (ex- pencils, erasers, etc). Students with summer birthdays may celebrate on their half birthday or towards the end of the year. Just let me know when!
Allergies
Please be aware of food allergies when sending items in for classroom parties. If sending in homemade items, please send in all nutrition labels so they may be checked for ingredients.
