About SSN College of Engineering, Chennai

SSN Institutions, founded by Dr Shiv Nadar, Chairman, HCL Technologies, stands as a premier centre of higher learning with a mission of pursuing excellence in education and research. Established in 1996, SSN is one of the leading institutions in Tamil Nadu in the field of engineering and technology. Situated on a sprawling 227-acre site with world-class ambience and residential amenities, the institution is known for its excellent faculty. All these have enabled SSN to be ranked regularly as one of the best engineering colleges in India.

SSN offers 400 attractive scholarships every year to meritorious and deserving students to encourage the value of education and make it accessible to students of all economic strata. SSN College of Engineering is accredited with A+ by NAAC. As per the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), it is ranked 48th among all engineering colleges, and 96th among all educational institutions in the country.

The Department of English at SSN

The conference (ICTR 2022) is the ninth one organized by the Department of English. As a teaching and research department, the English department conducts courses in English for all branches of engineering and offers PhD programmes in ELT, Language, Literature and other allied branches. Annual training programs in English and Foreign Languages for students, and Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs) and workshops for teachers are the other additional initiatives undertaken by the department.

The highly qualified faculty team focuses on the well-being of the student community and is particularly committed to the development of students and teachers in the rural areas in keeping with the philanthropic outlook of the institution. Every year, the department offers a three-week training to the students admitted under the Rural Scholarship Scheme, and a Teacher-training Workshop for the benefit of English teachers in neighbouring rural schools.

In the previous years, the department has hosted international and national conferences with nationally and globallly acclaimed experts in the area of ELT. N S Prabhu, Alan Maley, Jacob Tharu, T Sri Raman, Tamas Kiss, Nik Peachey, David Crystal, Anne Burns, Stephen Krashen and many others were a part of our distinguished guest list.
