Keynote Address 1: Prof. Anne Burns, Professor Emerita at Ashton University, U.K and the Professor of TESOL at the University of New South Wales, Australia, an international leader in Action Research, who has contributed immensely to language teacher education, and has researched language teacher cognition delivered the keynote address on Day 1,
Keynote address Day 2: Prof. Stephen Krashen Professor Emeritus at University of Southern California, USA, a world-renowned linguist, who developed the Input Hypothesis, and one of the most influential theorists in language education, especially, second language education presented the keynote address on Day 2.
Panel Discussion on Day 1 was on Classroom Teaching and Research in English Language: A Prospective Evaluation in which Prof. Jospeh Dorairaj, School of English and Foreign Languages, Gandhigram Rural Institute Gandhigram, Tamilnadu talked about The Role of Action Research in the Indian ELT Context; Dr. Maithry Shinde, Head, Dept. of English, St. Mary's College, Hyderabad discussed Dual or dueling roles? Balancing teaching and research and Dr. John Love Joy, Asst. Professor of English, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Trichy spoke on Connecting ELT Research to classroom teaching at primary, secondary and tertiary levels of education.
Workshop 1: Dr Santosh Mahapatra, BITS PIlani, Hyderabad Campus conducted a workshop on Designing Classroom-based Language Education Research Day 1.
Plenary Talk: Day 2, Dr Geetha Durairajan, Former Professor, EFLU and Dr Shree Deepa, Assistant Professor at Central University Hyderabad conducted a plenary talk on Moving from teaching language as a skill to exploring its potentiality.
The sessions were chaired by various faculty from the Department of English at SSN and by guest faculty from Anna University Chennai and SNU Chennai such as Dr Martha Karunakar, Dr S Thiruvenkataswami, Dr Divya John, Dr D Praveen Sam, Dr M Shyamala Bharathy and Dr Veena Selvam, Dr Sujatha Priyadharshini, and Dr K. N Shobha ( College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University) Dr Deepesh C and Dr Cherry M Philipose ( SNU, Chennai) and Dr S. Vijayakumar (Crescent Institute of Technology and Science, Chennai)
65 participants presented their papers over two days in different online sessions. Around 150 participants attended the conference sessions from all over India and from abroad. The feedback for each session was collected and recorded. All registered participants were provided certificates and customized SSN Files.

A Two-day International Virtual Conference on 'Online Teaching and Testing of English Language: Challenges and Solutions' was organized on 3 & 4 December 2020. Nik Peachey, Director of Pedagogy at Peachey Publications, UK delivered the keynote address on the topic, 10 Digital Tools and Resources for the Classroom Teaching on 3rd December. Mr. Robert Playfair and Mr. Hardman, William , University Teachers, English Language Centre, University of Liverpool Centre, University of Liverpool, UK delivered the plenary talk on “From problem to opportunity – rethinking English for Academic Purposes, speaking and listening for the online environment” on 4th December.
Prof. Shrimathy, Head, Department of English, Anna University, Chennai; Dr. Murugan, former Prof and Head, Department of English, Tamil Nadu Open University, Chennai; Ms. Nutan Kumari, the Program Leader of Amity Institute Of English Studies & Research, Amity University Patna and Dr. Preethi Srinivasan, Head, Department of English, Queen Mary's College, Chennai participated in the Panel discussion conducted by the English Department on the topic The paradigm shift: Teaching English Online on 4th December.
As a continuation of the International conference, the department also organised Two Talks by David Crystal on Saturday, 23 January, 2021: Talk 1 - Future of Englishes & Talk 2 - The Accent - Past Present and Future.

A Two-day International Conference on ‘ English Language Teaching: Trends and Innovations’ was organized on 13 & 14 December 2019. Dr. T. Sri Raman , former Professor of EFLU, Hyderabad, Dr. Tamas Kiss, Honorary Associate Professor, Department of English, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, Ms. Nicole Knighten, US State Department English Language Fellow, were the resource persons.

A Two-day International Conference on ‘Inclusive and Equitable Quality Education in ELT’ was organized by the Department of English in collaboration with the Department of English, Anna University, on 26 & 27 October 2018. Prof. Alan Maley, Author, Poet, Language Consultant and Retired University Professor from UK, and Dr. Philip Leeke, Dr. English Language Centre, University of Liverpool were the resource persons.

The Department of English organized the first International Conference on ‘Language and Literature: Dynamic Resources in the ELT Classroom’ on 10th & 11th Nov, 2017. Dr. N. S. Prabhu was the Chief Guest and main speaker. Dr. Geetha Durairajan, Professor and former Head, Department of Testing and Evaluation, EFLU and Dr. Shrimathy Venkatalakshmi, Professor and Head, Department of English, Anna University, were the other resource persons at the conference.

The Department of English organized the second National Conference on ‘Does INPUT equal INTAKE while teaching English as a Second Language?’ on 7th and 8th April, 2017. Mr. Vishwanath, Karadi Path and Dr. Revathi Vishwanath, Professor, B.S.Abdur Rehman Crescent University, Prof. Thiruvenkataswami, HOD English, SSNCE, and Ms. were the resource persons. Prof. M.S. Nagarajan, delivered the Valedictory address.

A Two-day National Conference on 'Teaching English Language to the 21st Century Learners'
The Department of English organized the first National Conference on “Teaching English Language to the 21st Century Learners” on 19th and 20th of February, 2016. The resources persons were Prof. Jacob Tharu, Former Head, Department of Testing, EFLU, Hyderabad, Dr. Tara Ratnam, Teacher Educator, Bangalore, and Dr. Kandiah Shriganeshan, Head of English Language Teaching Unit, Vavuniya Campus, University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka.
