The US debates its role in becoming an imperial power as it acquires overseas territory. World War I ushers in an American century as the old world order crumbles and the US transitions to a world power. The Roaring 20's bring about dramatic technological and social change followed by a Great Depression in which mass unemployment and suffering brings massive government intervention.
