Welcome Back!
2025-2026
2025-2026
Class Structure/Routine: Each class period will enter, find materials, read over the day's agenda and find their assigned seat. When class begins, we will have Bell work, followed by a quick Review, next will be the Lesson and at the end of class is the Closing. *Absent students will have a sheet marked, of what they missed while out and are expected to pick it up when they return. Students have as many days to complete the work as they were out (as long as the grading period isn't ending). Tests and quizzes will be scheduled with me as soon as possible.
*Some lessons/activities will be individual, others will require partner or small group and many times we will work as a whole group. When working with a partner/group-everyone is expected to put forth effort or points will be deducted in a fair manner.
Expectations: Guidelines in the handbook will be followed. Materials for class (including SSR book and agenda), being on time, giving best effort and attention will ensure a productive learning environment for all. Students will have a variety of incentives to work towards and consequences will be enforced if needed (posters in the room list the above). *Something newer, worth noting, is the need to address the misuse of AI. AI might have its place in the classroom, from time to time, but for a majority of student work-it must be authentic. If AI is misused for classwork/assignment, a consequence for plagiarism will be issued. We will go over this in class too. Also, no cell phones in class and computers will be used for classwork or occasionally incentives (when given permission).
Supplies: folder with lose leaf paper, spiral, agenda, pencils, pens (black, blue and red), highlighters (a variety of colors) and *silent reading book of choice
-Our unit workbooks and classroom novels will stay in the room, but can be checked out in FLIGHT or for homework as needed.
Curriculum and Tools: Scope Magazine, StudySync, individual silent reading book (genre challenge), class novel, CommonLit, and Quizizz, are our most used items. Students will also be given time to check Power School (I update daily/weekly), Google Classroom (I don't use it for daily work, but a place to store extra copies, links, missing work, etc.) and email.
Other helpful information:
Students will be given a student number (in my class) and that number will be used for their shared items (ex. desk for seating, class books, etc.).
Students will be able to earn tickets for weekly drawings in our room. Some of the prizes offered are: snacks/water/coffee/tea/hot chocolate (please email me if you do not want your child to have one or more of these incentives-make sure to include your child's name in the email). arosso@sheffieldschools.org
I often take pictures (and print them out for the kids if they want them). In addition, I sometimes share these photos with admin. to put on our social media (for the school district). If you do not want your child's picture taken/printed/shared, please email me-make sure you include your child's name. arosso@sheffieldschools.org
All of the 8th grade teachers have a shared Google Slides where we post reminders, homework and upcoming events/meetings, etc. We display this in our classrooms during FLIGHT time. Students are encouraged to check this board before going/doing anything else.
The 8th grade team participates in Reward Days. Students will be able to sign up for a room if they meet the criteria. If not, students will be given a space where they can catch up on missing work.
Students will have a data folder, kept in class, but will be available for conference nights too and then taken home at the end of the year.
If at anytime your student needs anything (or you) and feel I need to know something...please don't hesitate to talk/email me and let me know how I can help.
