My name is Anne Rosso (Mrs. A. Rosso). I will be your 8th grade ELA teacher. My goal is to continue to inspire all the avid readers out there and encourage all those who once loved to read, but lost the passion somewhere along the way to find the excitement once again.
"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go."
- Dr. Seuss
Additionally, my hope is for any student who might say they "hate to read" is that they soon find themselves excited to come into class; wanting to find out what happens next-in whichever book we/they are reading.
"There is no such thing as a child who hates to read. There are only children who have not found the right book."
- Frank Serafini.
Writing is another big focus in our curriculum. We will start with shorter writes and the proofreading/editing jobs. Then, we will get into the different types of essay writing to prepare for the State tests. We will use common writing formulas, so students feel confident when they see the writing prompts (on the tests).
"You learn to write better by reading. You learn to read better by writing. Reading and writing work together to improve your ability to think!"
A little bit about myself...I graduated from Brookside and I have degrees from LCCC, Ashland and Marygrove.
I am married to my high school sweetheart (we both attended Brookside), we have 2 daughters and a hermit crab named Bubbles. Our oldest daughter just graduated from Ashland University, where she also played on the women's soccer team. Our youngest is now a senior in high school and cheers for her football and basketball teams. She also competes on her school's competition cheer team.
A few things about me:
I am a vegetarian
My favorite color is yellow
My favorite food is ice cream
My favorite genre(s) of music is country and 80/90s
My favorite place to shop is Target
I love Halloween
I love the beach
I enjoy taking long walks
One of my favorite things to do (and as a family) is travel. My love for travel started when I became an exchange student, in high school. I participated in the Sheffield, Ohio to Sheffield, England program in 1994. Three summers ago, I finally went back to England, to attend my host-sister's wedding! While there I also went back to London and visited Paris for the first time!
My oldest daughter went to Italy two summers ago and my youngest flew, by herself, to Wisconsin to visit friends. Furthermore, we hosted an exchange student from France that summer and we got the chance to see and spend time with the principal/head master from the school in Sheffield, England (I attended while in high school; as he and his wife traveled to Ohio, September of 2024).
More recently, we took a family trip to Hawaii. We spent a day at Pearl Harbor and toured the USS Missouri, where my husband's grandfather was onboard when the Peace Treaty was signed to end WWII. It was an honorable and emotional day as we toured and learned more about these places from our country and family's history. The trip was also special as we traveled with Mrs. B. Rosso and her family and I/we spent a day with my first best friend who now lives on Oahu.
I am excited to meet and get to know all of you.
In addition, we will have a great year learning and growing together.
-Mrs. A. Rosso
