The 2020 International School Awards
Two of our SSHL Think Tank students, Kristin Mercado and Amanda Wieland (both DP21) visited London together with their mentor Clara Hawking and our Head of School, Ms Carina Nilsson, to represent SSHL at the International School Awards on January 20, 2020.
No win for SSHL this year, but we were counted among the champions of education for these awards and we are so very proud of our school and our students!
Great contacts were made for further collaboration and the team are on their way home filled with ideas and motivation.

Mission completed SSHL Think tank delivers its first research report!
The SSHL ‘Think Tank’ team was recently nominated for the ‘Future Thinking’ category in the International School Awards 2020 in London.
And this week, our Think Tank team of students visited SLU (Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences) to present their research report for the SLU Department of Ecology.

You and additionally some 30 young people from European cities, suburbs, and countryside are invited to a four-day conference. We pay for your travelling to Gothenburg, and your lodging and meal costs during your stay. The overall goal for the conference is to stand up for a democratic and open society, and to resist the pessimistic ideas of contemporary nationalism and populism.

On April 9th, 2019, a group of SSHL teachers, the IT Department, Librarian, and an Administrator, went to the SETT Exhibit at Kistamässan, Stockholm. Two more groups of SSHL teachers will be visiting the SETT Exhibit on April 10th and 11th.
On April 9th, 2019, a group of SSHL teachers, the IT Department, Librarian, and an Administrator, went to the SETT Exhibit at Kistamässan, Stockholm. Two more groups of SSHL teachers will be visiting the SETT Exhibit on April 10th and 11th.
SETT has a big and inspirational exhibition area where suppliers of digital tools and modern learning environments met with people in the educational sector. The exhibition consists of big tech brands, organizations, municipalities, as well as being a meeting place where exhibitors offer talks, pop-up classes, workshops, discussions and competitions, creating the unique environment that SETT is known for.

Can Robots Help Minimize Student Absence?

School absence can be caused by many reasons, which can keep a student away from school for a short period or a very long period. In any case, if the student is capable of doing school work but not able to show up at school, there is now a way for them to still be a part of the school world - namely through the use of a robot.

In any case, if the student is capable of doing school work but not able to show up at school, there is now a way for them to still be a part of the school world - namely through the use of a robot.
The A1 robot works as a similar way as Skype and Facetime but has a little twist to it. The student is able to see and hear, just as if they would be in the classroom. The student can also communicate through the robot, so the student can have conversations with other students and the teacher. The student can also move the robot’s head to see in different directions. This helps the student see others in the class and see the whiteboard. The robot can use facial expressions, such as when the student is happy or when the student is confused, and it can blink in different colors when the student wants to ask a question or when it needs help with something.
