Information: No Summer Graduation Ceremony- BP 5127 (adopted 4/25/24)
At the April 25, 2024, board meeting, the SSFUSD Board of Trustees approved a revised BP - Graduation Ceremonies and Activities. The Board of Trustees waived the second reading and approved the revised Board policy on 4.25.24 board meeting. The revised board policy 5127 is effective immediately and applies to the class of 2024 and beyond.
Below is what has been changed.
At the discretion of the Superintendent or designee, a student who will complete graduation requirements during the summer may be allowed to participate in graduation exercises without receiving a diploma. When the requirements have been satisfied, a diploma shall be sent to the student.
What does this mean?
Students that are within 10 credits of meeting all graduation requirements can participate in the graduation ceremony and activities if the student is good standing. The student will receive a diploma cover at the graduation ceremony but will not get the diploma until after completion of the remaining credits needed to satisfy graduation requirements. This also means that we will eliminate the Summer School graduation ceremonies effective summer of 2024.
IF A STUDENT DOES NOT ATTEND, GETS DROPPED FROM OR PASS THEIR SUMMER CLASSES, THEY WILL NOT RECIEVE A DIPLOMA AND WILL NOT HAVE OFFICIALLY GRADUATED FROM SSFUSD. STUDENTS WILL BE REFEERRED TO STUDENT SERVICES FOR NEXT STEPS. NOT RECEIVING A DIPLOMA OR ACADEMIC HIGH SCHOOL COMPLETION CREDITS WILL IMPACT FALL ENROLLMENT TO POST SECONDARY EDUCATION AND TRADE SCHOOL PROGRAMING.
