Organized by the alumni association, this dinner awards current graduates many of their scholarships. Contact Alumni President Jean Patoine (jeanpatoine1950@gmail.com) for more information.
The Alumni Day Parade is slated for Saturday June 18th, 2022. This year the Alumni Association will not be holding the Alumni Banquet. If you are an SHS alumnus interested in joining the Association, please go to their website: https://www.shsalumni.com/.
This event is just for SHS, but it is a big part of senior year for many students. Apple Blossom is an annual fundraiser for the Springfield Hospital. Senior girls from Springfield (and occasionally surrounding towns) agree to participate in a “cotillion.” They are escorted by young men (usually current students at SHS and most often seniors). They dress in nice dresses and perform some choreographed dances and attempt to sing songs. At the end of the night a “queen” and her court are announced. Contact the Hospital Auxilliary for more information about the cancellation.
The last day of regular classes for Seniors is June 2. This is also what we call “Arch Day.” Arch Day is a way that we celebrate the last day that seniors come to Springfield High School for classes. The night before Arch Day, parents decorate the lobby. On Arch Day, seniors will arrive in the student parking lot and meet administrators. Parents, other SHS students, and staff will be at the entrance of the school and clap & cheer when Seniors enter SHS for their last day. Once students have gone through the Arch, they will meet up with their advisor and collect their Cap and Gown and some other “Senior Swag.” Contact Kevin Coen or Crystal Shaw with any questions. These need to be ordered in advance. They will be handed out on June 2 at Arch Day.
Each year, the Friday of graduation, the local Moose organization makes a homemade breakfast for seniors before they begin their last graduation practice. Parent volunteers are needed. To volunteer to help, contact Yvonne at moose@vermontel.net.
Hosted at the United Methodist Church, this religious ceremony seeks to invite seniors (and their families) of all faiths to come and celebrate the momentous occasion of graduation.
To ensure that your child looks the best they can on the big day, they will be required to attend TWO practice events the two mornings (6/9 and 6/10) prior to graduation. Contact Kevin Coen (kcoen@ssdvt.org) for more information.
Usually in early May, a list of graduating seniors is released to the staff. Staff are encouraged to choose students from this list whom they have a relationship and create a badge that represents that student or pays homage to that student. Contact Kevin Coen (kcoen@ssdvt.org) for more information.
Each year the yearbook teacher and staff unveil the yearbook and the person to whom it is dedicated at a school-wide assembly.
