Developmental Adaptive Physical Education

(DAPE)

Stewartville Community Schools ensures that all students, with special needs, receive a Free Appropriate Public Education, otherwise known as “FAPE.” The Stewartville Community School District provides instruction specifically designed to the student’s physical ability. Should the student present a need for specialized instruction in the area(s) of physical fitness, motor fitness, or fundamental motor skills and patterns, (etc…) as regarded appropriate after the student’s assessment, he/she will be entitled to receive specialized instruction referred to as Developmental Adapted Physical Education (DAPE). Instruction will be provided by a licensed certified Physical Education Teacher, with a Developmental Adapted Physical Education (DAPE) endorsement/license. The program plan is constantly monitored, with quarterly reports and yearly review with the IEP team.
