What is physical fitness?

Physical fitness is a level of health in which you have muscular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, cardiovascular endurance, and lean body composition. Physical fitness is achieved by the regular movement of muscles through a variety of exercises.


Health Related

MUSCULAR STRENGTH: Muscular strength is the amount of force that your muscles can exert against resistance. Muscular strength can help you from being easily fatigued, and also helps you improve performance in sports.

MUSCULAR ENDURANCE: Muscular endurance is the ability to continue using muscular strength. When you have muscular endurance, your muscles are able to perform repeated movements for long periods of time without becoming tired. It also helps you maintain correct posture.

FLEXIBILITY: Flexibility is the ability to move the body through a full range of possible motion. When you are flexible, your body does not get stiff easily. You are less likely to injure yourself.

CARDIOVASCULAR ENDURANCE: Cardiovascular endurance is the ability to sustain vigorous activity that requires increased oxygen intake for extended periods of time. The ability to gain cardiovascular endurance depends on the frequency, intensity, and length of time spent in training.

BODY COMPOSITION: Your body composition (BMI = body mass index) is the percentage of fat tissue and lean tissue in your body. As you become physically fit, the ratio changes. The percentage of fat tissue decreases and the percentage of lean tissue increases.

AGILITY: Agility is the ability to change directions quickly.

SPEED: Speed is the ability to perform a movement or cover a distance in a short amount of time.

REACTION TIME: Reaction time is the amount of time it takes to get moving.

BALANCE: Balance is the ability to keep from falling.

POWER: Power is the ability to combine speed and strength.

COORDINATION: Coordination is the ability to use the body and senses together.
