Reopening Plan
Plan Details
Whole School Physical Distancing Measures:
We will accommodate staggered entries through our soft start in the morning (school doors open at 8:15 am with classes starting at 9:10) – classroom doors will be open (hallways supervised), with our breakfast program being available from 8:30-9:00. A similar process will be followed at lunch, school doors to open at 12:40 and classes start at 1:00
Curb-side student drop-off support is not currently needed due to the age of our students and the fact that the drop off loop is only 7 m from our front doors. The front entry checkpoint will also be staffed during drop-off times, with clear visibility of the entry walkway. Should the situation arise (i.e. a new IEP student requiring 1-on-1 support) the student’s SA will be assigned this task
Routines/procedures that require no physical contact to be taught/reinforced through PBIS
Remove all but 1 chair/table in supervised common areas
Establishment of directional flows for hallways/stairs
o Visual cues – floor decals
o Visual cues - PBIS posters (to be developed 1st week back)
Hand washing
Physical distancing
Class transitions/locker access
Entry/Exit
Washroom use
Self-monitoring
Coughing/Sneezing
o Crowd control barriers – for traffic flow
Lockers colour-coded using 6 colours (2 m between any two lockers of the same colour) and access to be limited via schedule/announcements
Announcements will be made over the PA system and will be duplicated on the electronic screen at the entry point. Student assemblies and staff meetings will be broadcast (Zoom) and displayed on classroom Smart TV’s
Elimination of breaks/lunch – stagger class change times/locker access
Students will be dismissed over a 15 min time period using locker colours to divide the student population into 6 groups. Given the blended model for Grades 7-10 this should be approximately 20-25 students per group (accommodation to be made to keep family groupings together)
Students will be required to leave the building (when not in a scheduled class)
Continued use of Google Classroom/Hapara etc. for online-learning (for those who cannot or choose not to physically attend)
Use of outdoor settings (weather permitting)
Grades 7-9 Physical Distancing Measures:
Utilize a cohort/homeroom model whereby students remain in the same “bubble” for instruction
Remove/store classroom furniture to enable the spacing (1 m) of student desks
Reschedule from a Day-1, Day-2 pattern to Day-1A, Day-1B, Day 2A, Day 2B
o This will allow for the splitting of larger classes into groups that can be physically distanced in the classrooms (1 m) – as per the grade specific guidelines.
o Accommodations to be made to keep family groupings together
o Supervised Study Hall/Work areas (2 m physical distancing) will be established for students to attend on their work-from-home days so they can access the internet, receive help/support, or if child-care is an issue – access to the Study Hall will be on an am/pm sign-up basis (previous day), NOT drop-in.
Grades 10-12 Physical Distancing Measures:
Remove/store classroom furniture to enable the spacing (2 m) of student desks
o Classroom photos and room sizes attached
Reschedule from a Day-1, Day-2 pattern to Day-1A, Day-1B, Day 2A, Day 2B
o This will allow for the splitting of larger classes into groups that can be physically distanced in the classrooms (2 m) – as per the grade specific guidelines. Depending on the grade/course students will physically attend every second day and work from home on the other day
o Accommodations to be made to keep family groupings together
o Senior classes of 15 (or less) may continue to meet every day based on class-by-class enrolment (and will be scheduled in the larger rooms to enable 2 m distancing – PRIORITY will be given to scheduling Gr. 12 classes every day
o Supervised Study Hall/Work areas (2 m physical distancing) will be established for students to attend on their work-from-home days so they can access the internet, receive help/support, or if child-care is an issue – access to the Study Hall will be on an am/pm sign-up basis (previous day), NOT drop-in.
Engineering Controls:

Establish a procedure for when a student becomes ill at school, including:

In the event of community spread, teachers with chronic & immune-compromised conditions (themselves or immediate family members in their care) will be accommodated to work from home (Zoom in to supervised classrooms) as advised by their health-care practitioner
In the event of community spread, Support Staff (SA’s, Custodians, Secretary, Counsellors) with chronic & immune-compromised conditions (themselves or immediate family members in their care) will be replaced with casual staff, have their shifts rescheduled and/or enabled to work from home, as advised by their health-care practitioner
No drop-in visitor policy; encourage parent contact through phone, email, Zoom etc. (continue with Conferencing on Demand Thursdays)
Zoom assemblies where students can watch on Smart Board/TV in their classrooms
Phys Ed to concentrate on individual fitness, outdoor-activities, and low-contact sports
Fitness room to be restricted by physical distancing requirements (1 m for 7-9, 2 m for 10-12) by using only every 3rd or 4th machine. Equipment wipe-down/disinfectant routines to be implemented after every use
Music classes to be restricted to guitar/keyboard (no wind instruments, or singing), and instruments to be disinfected after each use
Increase hallway supervision during transition times
Supervision at Entry and Exit doors
Supervision of student washrooms (limited to 2 at a time)
Each student will be provided with their own ChromeBook and be taught how to disinfect them – no sharing will be allowed
