About Ms. Rich

I grew up in Point Loma and have a love for cats, Star Wars, skating, soccer, trinkets and board games. I enjoy being creative in my spare time, which is one of the reasons I love teaching the 6/7th grade pottery elective. Seeing students' creativity and unique ideas inspires me to keep creating right alongside them.

After teaching 6th grade for the past five years, I am thrilled to be transitioning back to 8th grade science. I actually began my teaching career teaching 8th grade math and science for distance learners in the Santee School District, and I look forward to returning to where my career began! Before that, I completed my student teaching in 6th grade here at Carlton Oaks with Mrs. McGrael, making this school feel like home.

This past year, I earned my Master's degree in Math and Science Education, and I look forward to incorporating what I learned into our classroom. We will be using OpenSciEd as our science curriculum, where students investigate real-world phenomena, ask questions, and work together to make sense of the world around them.

In my classroom, I value curiosity, perseverance, collaboration, and students who are willing to take risks in their learning. I believe that making mistakes, asking thoughtful questions, and trying new ideas are essential parts of the learning process. My goal is to create a classroom where every student feels comfortable sharing their thinking, solving problems together, and growing as both scientists and people.

I am looking forward to getting to know each of you and making this a fun, engaging, and memorable year of learning together!
