To the casual observer, the year in careers can appear deceptively familiar. Regular events and activities roll around and can create the illusion that perhaps the sphere of education we call Careers is a predictable, controllable and easily manageable process.
Schools aren’t factories. You can’t create a whole lot of boxes of the same shape and size, stamp “graduating student” on them and pack pupils neatly onto a palate for despatch into the community. Education is learning - the dynamic, unpredictable collision of knowledge, ability, interest, teaching, emotion, relationship, aspiration. As any student, teacher or parent knows, that’s complex enough within the walls of Shire Christian School.
Connecting the world within to the ever-changing learning, working and training world beyond our Allies Road campus is the delicious and dynamic challenge of Careers. Once again, we’ve employed many creative, engaging and varied means to guide and nurture our students as they begin making the connection with universities, TAFE, private colleges and employers.
A typical year in Careers at Shire Christian is full of opportunity, variety and activity! A glance over the calendar says it all: Year 12 University of Wollongong Discovery Day, Year 11 HSC and Careers Expo, STEM Big Day In at UTS, Resume Writing and Interview Techniques, Year 10 Work Experience, Early Entry and Scholarship applications, School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships, as well as overseeing TAFE courses for Stage 6 TVET students.
