Step 4 - Create!
Rules
Your task is to construct an Egg Drop that follows these rules...
Your raw egg must be dropped from AT LEAST 8ft.
You MUST use a parachute, and the parachute cannot be store bought. You need to make it!
Your raw egg and apparatus need to be dropped on a PIECE OF CARDBOARD. This will help ensure everyone's egg is landing on the same surface.
Your raw egg must SURVIVE the fall!
You must drop your egg from a SAFE place or use parent/guardian help. Do NOT try and climb in dangerous places to drop your egg from a large height.
Remember, there is no such thing as a bad idea!
WARNING: If you are using tools that have sharp edges, be sure to grab a parent or other adult and ask for help!
With that said, remember: This is a project for YOU!
Contest Instructions
While constructing your egg drop apparatus think about how you can push yourself and win the contest! There will be three winners for each grade level, which means 18 winners total! Each winner will be able to pick an item from scholastic worth $10 or less in value.
The three areas you can win in are height, weight, and creativity. There will be a panel of judges who vote on the winners for height and weight, but you the students get to vote on the winner for creativity! The finalists for height and weight will be contacted to bring their egg drop apparatus to school to drop in front of the judges on Wednesday, March 6th.
How to win in each category...
Height: The person that can drop their egg from the tallest height without their egg breaking wins this category! Please remember the egg must be dropped on a cardboard surface and you must use a parachute in your apparatus. Please make sure you are dropping your egg from somewhere safe. A panel of judges will chose the finalists from this category to come do an egg drop in person on Wednesday, March 6th.
Weight: Try to make your egg drop apparatus weigh as little as possible! The person who can create an apparatus with the lightest weight and still drop their egg without it breaking wins this category! Please remember that your apparatus must still include a parachute. A panel of judges will chose the finalists from this category to come do an egg drop in person on Wednesday, March 6th.
Creativity: Feel free to decorate your egg drop apparatus and make it as festive as possible! This year's theme is "EGGStraterrestial EGGSplorers." For this theme, think about what it would be like if your parachuting creation had to crash land on a new planet! Would it meet aliens? Would it look like a rocket ship? You could use festive paper, stickers, paint, designs on the cardboard landing, etc. Use your creativity to make your egg drop come to life and decorate it with planets, space, and alien creatures in mind! You and the fellow participants will vote on the winner during the week of March 4th. You do NOT need to attend the in person drop.
Some things to consider as you begin to build:
As Golden Eagles, we soar, and so should your creation! Take your time. It is okay to spend multiple days planning and building your creation.
Create something that gives you a sense of accomplishment and makes you feel proud.
Consider the materials you will need to make your creation come to life.
