Tim Decker has been teaching high school music in Sonoma County for over 20 years. Tim is an alumni of Santa Rosa High School where he played in the bands, chamber wind ensemble, and jazz bands under the direction of Mark Wardlaw, played in a brass quintet, sang in the choirs under Dan Earl, and graduated in 1998. After graduation from SRHS he earned a Bachelor's of Music in Music Education degree from Sacramento State University, where he studied conducting with Dr. Robert Halseth and Dr. Don Kendrick, Tuba with Julian Dixon, and Bass Trombone with Joel Elias. Tim has been honored as the Prudential Education Foundation Outstanding Teacher in 2009, The Rohnert Park Patch Readers’ Choice Best Teacher in 2012, CCGC Director of the Year in 2019, and was twice awarded the SF Giants and Wells Fargo Step up to the Plate for Education Grant. Tim is still active as a performer in the area, and can be heard singing with the Santa Rosa Symphonic Chorus, and playing tuba, euphonium, and trombone with community bands, orchestras, and chamber ensembles. In addition to teaching at SRHS and SRJH he serves as adjunct faculty at SRJC in their applied music program.
