First Grade Music

May 20th 2020

Hello hello everybody! My birthday was yesterday, so I didn't post, lol.

Here we go

  • Head on over to Classics for Kids and do this weeks activities which are on the great Russian composer Rimsky-Korsokov--which is his whole last name. We usually only refer to composers by their last names.

    • Once you finish the weekly quiz there is a section at the bottom where you can submit to your teacher. Please fill it out with your name and my email: dmarvosh@srcs.k12.ca.us PLEASE!

  • Next, Go to Music Play Online and look for the Smoothe or Separate game. It has a picture with a frog.

    • Work through the game and have fun with it.

  • Still in Music Play Online find the Solfa Practice.

    • Under the Echo Sing section find the So-Mi-Do and Mi-Re-Do tabs and complete the numbers 1, 2, and 3 of both sections.

  • Finally, please watch this video of the Concord Blue Devils. I'd love to know what you think of this one. Please email me your thoughts at dmarvosh@srcs.k12.ca.us

Hi Guys. I'm a couple days late this week, so let's just watch this short video. Feel free to do the Classics for Kids weekly lesson.

May 5th 2020

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

So, no one emailed me from last week's assignment. That's fine. I get it! I'm not sad at all, and I definitely didn't cry. πŸ˜’πŸ˜’ Please, oh please send me emails with the same kind of things. Or anything. Maybe just say hi.

  • Head on over to Classics for Kids and do this weeks activities. OOoo, we're learning about Rimsky-Korsakov. He's cool.

    • Once you finish the weekly quiz there is a section at the bottom where you can submit to your teacher. Please fill it out with your name and my email: dmarvosh@srcs.k12.ca.us PLEASE!

    • It might be fun to write down the names of the songs that the host mentions and listen to them on Spotify. If you have a little brother/sister, play some of this music for them. It can be beneficial.

  • Go to Music Play Online find the Solfa Practice. Let's focus on this section for the week.

    • Students: Under the Echo Sing section and do the rest of the tabs we didn't do last week. Try to use the hand symbols with the syllables you're singing.

  • Finally, please watch this video. It's celebrities singing Imagine by The Beatles, except fixed, because they were all singing it differently. βœ¨πŸ‘πŸ™Œ

April 30th 2020

Sorry this is a bit late. (I try to get these in on Tuesdays) Here are this weeks activities.

May the odds be ever in your favor!

  • Head on over to Classics for Kids and do this weeks activities. Vavaldi's Spring music.. you guys are going to be experts on Vivaldi

    • Once you finish the weekly quiz there is a section at the bottom where you can submit to your teacher. Please fill it out with your name and my email: dmarvosh@srcs.k12.ca.us

    • It might be fun to write down the names of the songs that the host mentions and listen to them on Spotify. She only shares a small portion, but I would encourage listening to the songs that you like. Science has shown that listening to classical music raises your IQ, so why not take advantage.

  • Next, Go to Music Play Online and look for the Instruments of the Orchestra game. It's one of the pictures on the right side of the page.

    • Work through the game and then answer these questions (you may email me your answers if you wish):

      • What section of instruments does an orchestra have that a band does not?

      • What's one way instruments are grouped together in families?

      • What family of instruments does the piano fit into?

  • Still in Music Play Online find the Solfa Practice.

    • Students: Under the Echo Sing section find the So-Mi and La-So-Mi tabs and complete the numbers 1, 2, and 3 of both sections.

  • Finally, please watch this video from my friend Sarah Dramstad. Please try to play this game with someone is your household.

April 21st 2020

Here are this weeks activities.

Ready, get set, go!

  • Head on over to Classics for Kids and do this weeks activities. They are on Concertos Through the Ages (still Vivaldi).

  • Next, Go to Music Play Online and head back to the Rhythm Practice section.

    • I would like you to continue work on these exercises and work up through the FIRST FIVE TABS of Echo Rhythm; Read, Clap Play; and Listen, Say, and Clap. So we are adding one tab on top of the 4 we did last week.

  • Still in Music Play Online find the Solfa Practice.

    • Lets finish the Prepare section.

    • Parents: go to Tone Ladders & Hand Signs and print, if you can, the Handsigns - Drawings. Usually in a music classroom we will have something like this on our wall. When students sing solfeggio, each word is sung with a hand sign. These hand signs are for the right hand. So as we move through the Solfa Practice please encourage your student to refer to the handsigns.

    • Students: Under the Prepare section find the Melody Tools tab and complete the 2-note and 3-note Melody Composition

    • In the So-Me tab , please pick 3 movies to watch, doesn't matter which ones.

  • Finally, please watch this video on Music Complexity:

Hopefully we're having lots of fun with these. I think soon we'll have a Google Classroom up and running. I kept jumping between wanting one and not wanting one. If you've been doing these activities, great. If not, it's okay. You can always email me at dmarvosh@srcs.k12.ca.us for any questions/concerns.

Anyway, here we go:

  • Head on over to Classics for Kids and do this weeks activities. They are again on Antonio Vivaldi, but some more stuff.

  • Next, Go to Music Play Online and head back to the Rhythm Practice section.

    • I would like you to continue work on these exercises and work up through the FIRST FOUR TABS of Echo Rhythm; Read, Clap Play; and Listen, Say, and Clap. So we are adding one tab on top of the 3 we did last week.

  • Still in Music Play Online find the Solfa Practice.

    • If you see in Solfa Practice, there are 7 sections: Prepare; Echo Sing; Poison Melody; Read Handsigns; Read Notation; Listen & Sing; and Assessment.

    • In each of these sections, you'll notice tabs at the top of the green box.

    • Please work through the four exercises under the Prepare So-Mi tab.

  • Finally, please watch this video on chorus vs verse:

Everything is constantly changing for us teachers, so please bare with me as I need to change some things around. Mostly, setting up a bunch of google classrooms, which wasn't my initial plan. So be on the lookout for an invite, once I get everyone's emails organized.

Oh well! here are the activities for this week.

  • First, again head on over to Classics for Kids and do this weeks activities on Antonio Vivaldi.

  • Next, Go to Music Play Online and head back to the Rhythm Practice section. Thank you for trying this out last week

    • If you see in Rhythm Practice, there are 5 sections: Echo Rhythm; Read, Clap, Play; Listen, Say, and Clap; Poison Rhythm; and Assessment.

    • In each of these sections, you'll notice tabs at the top of the red box.

    • So I would like you to continue work on these exercises and work up through the FIRST THREE TABS of Echo Rhythm; Read, Clap Play; and Listen, Say, and Clap.

  • Finally, please watch this video on harmony:

Hi first grade!

So for our first week of distance learning I just want us to get comfortable adding music to your daily regimen of learning.

  • First, let's go to Classics for Kids. Click the play button to listen to the lesson, then click the remaining links in the 'This Week' section.

  • Once you've done that, I suggest that you explore the site, there is a ton of stuff to do there

  • Next, let's go to Music Play Online. To log in, follow the COVID-19 instructions at the top of the login window.

  • This website also has a ton to explore. I think it would be best to start in the Rhythm Practice section, and try and to the first couple Echo Rhythm activities.

  • Finally, it's important to actually listen to music and explore a lot of styles of music. Here is what I pick this week:
